Using a water filter has become nearly a necessity as pollution has moved into our fresh water supply and caused many problems. Even fresh water found in underground wells is becoming contaminated as more chemicals are found to be seeping into the water tables at different levels. Many people choose to buy water in bottles that has already been processed through a water filter while others choose a water filter that can be attached to the faucet or can be on a pitcher and filters the water as it enters the pitcher and is poured out. Buying bottled water is an option to create a portable water supply. However, this option involves making some other responsible choices such as recycling the bottles when they are empty so as not to add to the overflowing landfills.
As consumers we face many choices when it comes to our water supply. Choosing to purchase bottled water adds to our responsibilities as responsible people. However, purchasing a water filter means that each glass of water is filtered without creating a large number of used plastic bottles. A water filter can be purchased today that will last for months before needing to be changed whereas bottled water may need to be repurchased each week or month, depending on how much you use.
Bottled water also offers many choices for flavors and carbonated and so on. A water filter that is attached to a spigot does not offer that option. However, you can purchase mixes to add to your filtered water. The choices that we face usually end up being made out of personal preference and convenience. Bottled water can be carried with us wherever we go. Using a water filter requires refilling your bottle or glass constantly. So again, it’s a matter of personal preferences and convenience.
Because we cannot usually carry a water filter with us when we travel, many of us opt for bottled water. Indeed, if we travel to foreign countries, carrying bottled water is critical to maintain health. Camping and hiking trips usually require we carry our water with us as well.
The health conscious world that we live in today demands that we use some form of water filter to get rid of any impurities found in our drinking water. How we choose to use a water filter is really up to us. However, making responsible choices will help us keep our planet cleaner through recycling efforts.
